#1 Daron Smythe participated in a live Zoom call with members of the wrestling media after this past Saturday's Eruption episode, and here are some of the highlights...
The First Question is from Jeremy Thomas, from 411mania.com:
"Daron, so many huge changes right now in the UWL - including a new name, new World's Champion, debuting and returning superstars. What do you think about the state of the UWL right now?"
Daron: Great question, lots of wild things going on at the moment. I was signed to this place as UWL and set myself to be the UWL World Champion. Now, we are back to the UWL, and to be honest, I have zero attachment to the name. One thing I can tell is, it's changed the energy around here. You can tell what it means to some of these guys. To me? It's just three letters...
...when it comes to the new World's Champion, there's no denying Billy Danielson is on a roll. I saw the fire in his eyes when we were in the four way dance but I can't help but think, if it wasn't for that idiot Nick Danger, maybe I'd be the one in that main event? Look, I can tell Billy is the feel good story right now, I'm not gonna get in his way...yet. Let everyone else line up to fall to the man with the hot hand, I'll bide my time.
As far as debuting superstars - Leonardo's an interesting case. He gave me a tough match but much like Billy Danielson, I'm on a roll, I'm the UWL Television Champion. He's...an artist. Can he find his footing? Maybe, but his time isn't yet.
The one who intrigues me right now is Jackson Burnside. I thought he was surely going to be the one to bring down Caleb Hart and win that title, but he came up short. He went away for a bit and now he's switched it up. What's that old saying? Go away and learn a new hold? Maybe he's back and a bit more serious. He's definitely one to keep an eye on.
The second question comes from Twitter via David Bixenspan:
"Daron, how can you continue to denigrate Nick Danger's title victory while your last two wins have been less than honest yourself. And to get in the face of his family at ringside at that?"
Daron: It's interesting how everyone is all for nuance except when it comes to their favorites. People want to say I'm not playing fair. Did Nick Danger even pin the champion to win that title? No. I pinned Nick Danger's shoulders to the mat for a 1-2-3! I won the title exactly how it's supposed to be won - by pinning the champion in the center of the ring. And as far as Nick Danger's family goes, let's just say that if ol' Maria and Alex stick their nose in my business again, they'll earn themselves a knuckle sandwich, just like the one I used to beat Nick Danger!
The next question comes from Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer:
"Daron, it seems Nick Danger is using his mandatory rematch clause against you and wants a steel chain match. Do you think you'll be able to retain the title on an even playing field?"
Daron: What the hell kind of question is that? You're talking about a guy who in desperation to not be eliminated in a four way match pulled me over the top rope by the trunks, a guy who never earned his championship, a guy who hides behind his family members during tough times! Me? I'm a self-made man! I'm the UWL Television Champion and I'm the future UWL World Champion! Yes, Dave, my destiny is the UWL World Championship, the only variable is time! Now, my intelligence has been insulted enough, this Zoom call is OVER!
