The scene opens with weather reports cutting in out and rapidly from all over the country. Largely, they show footage from reports on the massive cold front that blew through the U.S. in late December, but they all report on record high January temperatures, and a massive storm swell brewing in the Pacific. After a few seconds of this it cuts out like the power going off.
Riders on the storm...
"Riders on the Storm" begins to play. The background comes back on, but there isn't much to look it. It's just this sort of grainy off-black animation that resembles TV static. The song plays very low in the background. Jim Morrisons' soothing vocals and the occasional crack of thunder are an accompaniment to the main piece. The Weatherman enters the shot from the left. He's dressed for winter. Gone is the long black duster he wears to the ring, replaced instead with a large, raggedy looking coat. It's some hodgepodge of blue plaid and cloth strips. He's got a brown scarf on around his neck, a black woolie cap on his head. Fingerless gloves on his hands, and the small, almost comically undersized sunglasses are on his face. There's a deliberateness to the entire ensemble. The Weatherman doesn't look like a man who can't afford better clothes; he looks like a man paying a lot of money to look a certain way. It borders the line between poor and fashionable.
Jackson Burnside:
"What do they say when The Weatherman comes to play?"
He playfully cocks his head.
Jackson Burnside:
"They say the sky rips asunder and angels cry.
And with the roar of thunder you fight to survive."
His cadence and mannerisms say as much as his words. The white hot adrenaline-fueled intensity of the Superbeast is all but gone. Replaced instead with a playfulness that indicates confidence. Jackson Burnside, for the moment at least, has been replaced by the Weatherman.
Jackson Burnside:
"In Atlanta, it's a stampede, it's rumble.
'ts where the Weatherman goes lookin' for trouble.
It's all on the line, a shot at the best.
To reach him just topple the rest.
Outlast and beat all the other deadbeats and bums
Throw 'em aside, for the Weatherman comes."
He takes a deep breath and removes the sunglasses. "Riders on the Storm" continues to play low in the background and now the Weatherman starts to pace. He moves in a small circle back and forth, turning his head whenever necessary to keep focused on the camera.
Jackson Burnside:
"At this time, a year ago I was the World Champion. I rose to the stars at Starzone last year and since then I've crashed down like a meteor. Leavin' a three mile wide, five-thousand meter deep hole in the ground. Dust thrown into the sky, enough to bring in an ice age and kill us all like dinosaurs! But UWL, she's hearty, she's strong and she's not seein' an ice age! Things are hotter than ever, and hotter still because The Weatherman has come to play! To join the fray and rip through every last man and woman in his path!
He stops and turns his body to the camera.
Jackson Burnside:
"Walking into the Universal Stampede, it's like running straight into the heart of tornado! I live for the whirlwind, for the chaos and mass of destruction it leaves behind. And there'll be no hidin' in the root cellar! Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. The hurricane-" gestures to himiself "-collides with a tornado and it's going to be a storm of cataclysmic proportions! Gale force winds are gonna hurl every man and woman outta that ring! On January 7th the story of redemption starts - the comeback story of the century! By the time it's over, and I dominate the Universal Stampede and then go on to crush Billy Danielson, nobody is gonna talk about much else. Nobody else's comeback will matter! Not Robby Daniels! Not Billy D! Not... CALEB HART!!! ."
His voice reverberates through whatever room he's recording this take in. Maybe it's just a post-production effect.
Jackson Burnside:
'Weather alert! 2023 kicks off with a banger, as The Weatherman blows into Atlanta, rains over everyone's parade and reigns supreme over UWL. Now is the time for my comeback story to begin."
He tells the camera to zoom in. It doesn't take long for the camera to be focused on Burnside's weathered, bearded face. He puts the sunglasses back on and smiles.
Jackson Burnside:
"Brother, which one of you is gonna stop me?"
