UWL Eruption 4-15-23

The camera comes alive and taking up most of the frame is a figure with their back to the camera, seated hunched-over on a wooden bench. From the body type it is shown to be a man, shirt off exposing a lean upper body, a line of white fabric down by his waist. His head is bowed and a white towel hangs over it. The shot slowly begins to move to the side, revealing arms tucked in at the chest, black elbow pads worn and hands folded together upright. The man's fingertips are gently touching his stubbled chin. From this vantage point we can see that the man is David Carroll, although his eyes are closed so whether he sees the camera is a different story. A zoom on his lips show that they are silently moving.

"It's rude to interrupt a man in the midst of prayer."

Lips stopped being silent and eyes snap open quickly, staring ahead for a few moments. Then, a warm, welcoming smile as David turns to look at the camera.

"But forgiveness is a virtue that I possess no limit to. After all, it's almost show time."

David looks over his shoulder, letting his eyes close once more but for a few seconds before turning back to the camera.

"Last week was…emotional. It was humbling, joyful, exciting, maybe even a little nerve-wracking. But with Him on my side, fear becomes just another word that loses meaning. I opened the show last week, as I am again this week. They say that the best way to put together events like these are to bookend them. Start on a high note, let it taper a little and then end strongly. I think putting me in the opening match was intentional for that reason. Not only to show that I belong amongst the great competitors in the UWL, but to also present a positive role model for the fans, young and old alike."

David takes the towel off of his head and slowly places it off to the side. From that direction, he grabs white athletic tape and slowly begins to wrap it around his left wrist, eyes focused on the task.

"I had the honor of facing Leonardo, a man who, until recently, held the UWL Heritage Championship. He was coming off a loss, and I will be the first to admit that he had the upper hand on me for most of the match. But much like my opponent's ever-consuming quest for perfect in the material world, defeating me was yet another in a line of failures. All it took was for him to make one simple mistake, a desperate lapse in judgment…"

He finished wrapping his left wrist and looked back to the camera.

"…and he received the gift of redemption. It comes in many forms and in the UWL, redemption means giving in. The simple tapping of a hand can ease any physical suffering that comes with the risk of stepping into the ring. Understandably, Leonardo is not competing tonight, and it may be a little while before he's ready to step into the ring again. That's okay though; because a part of redemption is taking the opportunity to look within oneself. Leonardo…my Earth brother…I hope you realize that the pursuit of physical perfection does not bring you the inner peace you are desperately seeking. Love yourself, love Him, and everything else will fall into place."

David looks away from the camera, beginning to wrap his right wrist.

"Yes, I'm finding that the UWL is truly much like my church, and that it is a giving organization. They're gracing me with another worthy opponent tonight. Another man who is a former champion, but this man was a two-time former Television Champion and most recently held the grandest of all titles; the UWL World Championship. You all know by now that I'm wrestling Billy Danielson tonight. It's going to happen very shortly, and I am excited to test my mettle against another one of the best this company has to offer."

Now that he's finished with the wrist tape, he slowly stands up, the camera following.

"William, and I hope you don't mind me using your full, biblical name; but William, I saw your match at Access Denied. I also saw what you said before the match, and it left me with a troubling first impression. You see, all of that rage you expressed before the match, all of the vitriol and all of the threats that you spat at your opponent…"

David looks down for a moment, clasping his hands together and heaving a sigh before glancing back up.

"…well I hate to say it, but it was all for nothing. That fire in your chest is nothing more than misplaced anger. Now I get it, I really do. You were mad because you let yourself down by losing your title. You were mad because you disappointed the few people in this world who you think care about you, key word being think. Because HE…"

David points and looks up; when he looks down, his finger stays raised and slowly falls back down while he speaks.

"…He cares about William. If you were to just open your heart to him, he would say 'my son, do not look back on moments of your life with anger, but look ahead at the beautiful future that you can carve out.' That's what I'm doing and have been doing for a couple of years now, and the quality of my life has improved ten-fold. I'm not one to worry about what others say about me, because I'm sure you'll have some words for me, and I'm sure that you'll try to intimate me. Maybe you'll say that you're going to hurt me…maybe you'll hype yourself up, which is good. Self-love is crucial so long as it does not cloud your mind. Because if you step into the ring with me, and your mind is indeed clouded, well, William…much like Leonardo found out, you will not be able to defeat me. But that's also okay, as it sets you on a quicker path to redemption. You want to be redeemed…"

David stares at the camera as if he's looking through the lens, but hints of a smile remain at the corners of his mouth.

"…don't you, William?"

The camera cuts out.

Emily Lyle - The following contest is set for one fall with a fifteen minute time limit!

The lights dim in the arena and stay down for about 10 seconds. "Ministry of Lost Souls" by Dream Theater hits the p.a. system in sync with the house lights coming back up, almost too bright at first before dimming down to their normal level. David Carroll is already standing at the entrance ramp, his arms spread to the side with palms and head tilted up. His eyes are closed as he slowly lowers his head. They open slowly as a smile that can only be described as serene spreads across his lips.

Emily Lyle - From Ridge Manor, Florida, weighing two hundred and twenty seven pounds, David Carroll!!

As he starts down towards the ring, his arms slowly drop and his hands come clasped together in front of them, hanging by his waist. He casually looks to both sides of the crowd, not being affected by their reaction. When he gets to ringside, he will pick up a random fan that's booing him and tell them "I'll pray for you my brother/sister". He walks up the ring steps and gets into the ring. Once there, he stops right in the middle, his arms go to the sides with palms up once more. He nods a few times as if to tell the crowd he accepts their decision to boo him. The smile never leaves his face.

Cliff Morris – We’re about ready to start this match up….

Danielson goes right after Carroll, the bell sounds. Danielson nails Carroll with hard forearm strikes knocking him back against the ropes. Danielson keeps hitting away at him with forearm strikes. Carroll comes back nailing him with a knee to the stomach which stuns him. Carroll nails Danielson across his back with hard clubbing shots. Carroll sends Danielson off into the ropes, he runs off the ropes back at Carroll, he goes to lift him up, Danielson floats around behind Carroll. Danielson leaps into the air nailing Carroll with a dropkick to his back which stuns him. Danielson starts kicking Carroll with hard kicks. Carroll comes back with a knee to the stomach nailing Danielson across his back with hard clubbing shots. Carroll sends Danielson into the corner. Carroll runs in at him, Danielson dodges out of the way, Carroll slams into the turnbuckles. Danielson takes Carroll back with a school boy roll up.

They both return to their feet. Carroll goes for a clothesline, Danielson ducks under. Danielson starts kicking away on Carroll nailing him with hard forearm strikes. Danielson goes to kick him, Carroll blocks it. He grabs his leg up, throwing him with a T-bone suplex. Carroll pulls Danielson up, nailing him with repeated knees to the stomach. Carroll throws him with a judo hip toss. Danielson lays on the mat, Carroll walks slowly around him. Carroll grabs Danielson, throwing him into the corner. Danielson lays against the turnbuckles. Carroll turns Danielson around out of the corner. He grabs him, Danielson slaps his arms away, nailing him with hard forearm strikes. Danielson nails Carroll with a hard European uppercut, which stuns him. Danielson steps back, he nails Carroll with a clothesline sending him down to the mat.

Logan Acker - Billy Danielson needs to stay on the attack and not let up!

Danielson nails Carroll with a vicious stomp to the face. He pulls him up nailing him with another hard European uppercut, which stuns him. Danielson grabs Carroll around his head, dropping him down with a suplex. He rises up slowly, Carroll lays on the mat. Carroll rises up, Danielson kicks him in his face sending him back down to the mat. Danielson runs at Carroll for a running European uppercut, Carroll dodges out of the way. He leans over, lifting Danielson up onto his shoulders, throwing him down with a backbreaker. Carroll pulls Danielson up to his feet, he grabs him around his head, lifting him up, holding him up and throwing him down with a side Russian leg sweep.

Logan Acker - David Carroll sent Billy Danielson down like he was nothing!

Carroll pulls Danielson up, he nails Carroll with a hard forearm strike, which stuns Carroll. Danielson runs off the ropes running back at Carroll nailing him with a running kick to the face which staggers him. He runs back off the ropes for a lariat, Carroll ducks under. Danielson turns, Carroll nails him with a jab which stuns him. He grabs him up onto his arms, dropping him across his knee with a backbreaker. Carroll rises up still holding Danielson again, dropping him across his knee with a backbreaker. Carroll drops him again with a backbreaker throwing him onto the mat. Carroll goes out to the ring apron. He pulls himself up, leaps off, but Danielson catches him. He throws him back with a fall away slam. Carroll stumbles to his feet. Danielson runs at him for a ripcord knee, but Carroll dodges out of the way.

Cliff Morris - David Carroll just did move in time!

Carroll grabs Danielson around his waist from the back. He runs him into the ropes, pulls him back for an O'Connor Roll, the referee counts.

Both men rise to their feet. Danielson lands a forearm strike. Carroll stumbles back into the corner. Danielson runs in at him, but Carroll dodges out of the way. Carroll takes him over with a School Boy Roll Up, the referee counts.

Carroll puts his feet on the ropes.

Carroll rolls out of the ring clamping his hands together in front of his face with his eyes closed. Danielson sits on the mat in shock shaking his head.

Danielson rises up shaking his head as he looks down and out. Carroll stands on the floor still with his hands up in front of his face.

Cliff Morris - Billy Danielson just can't catch a break.

Logan Acker - You'll here the talking heads all say this and that about Billy Danielson losing again. I will go on record. He may be down but he's not out. I trust Billy can shake this off he's to good not to be able to come back from this small set back.

Danielson stands in the ring leaning against the ropes shaking his head as he watches Carroll walk around the ring.

The show cuts to a break.

“Enforcer” Anthony Cross is sitting in the stands of the Thompson-Boling Arena. He has the UWL World Heavyweight title belt draped over his lap as he looks down at the empty ring.

“Enforcer” Anthony Cross: It was just a couple of months ago in this very building where I finally obtained this very belt.

Anthony cracks a smile and places his right hand on the championship belt.

“Enforcer” Anthony Cross: The blood, sweat, tears were all worth it to get to this point. So to be back in this building is extremely special. So tonight I am facing another epic battle in front of me. A woman that dominated the UWL Women’s division and rendered it obsolete, a woman who is one half of a tremendous tag team in Euphoria. A woman who has earned this shot deserves to hold this crown. That just won’t be tonight because I am far from done with this championship. It isn’t a knock on Dayna in any way. It is simply not your time yet.

Anthony has an ominous look on his face.

“Enforcer” Anthony Cross: I have seen people come and go here in UWL but yet I persisted. I told all of you for years I was going to capture this World Championship that probably made everyone physically sick considering how many times I said it. I get it! I would have been over talking about it and just wanted to do it. After I came up short the first time against Billy I didn’t know when I would get the chance at this title again. It just so happened to only come ninety days later and I fully cashed in on that opportunity. I will for damn sure not sully the memory of winning it in this very arena to lose it in this very arena. That just isn’t happening and one might call that a fact of life. So all of you can count on that.

The cameras show Nick Danger in his locker room holding one half of the UWL tag team titles wearing his wrestling gear getting ready for his match with Jackson Burnside. Nick looks at the camera and speaks

Nick Danger: At Access Denied me and Ace Sky won the tag team titles to prove we deserve to be the head of the tag team division. But once we were celebrating our victory after winning the tag team titles from Absolution and Supreme Force. Robb Daniels and Lauren Roberts attacked us from behind.

Nick Danger: You thought you could get the best of me in our one on one match together but I ended up beating the center of the ring. So how about I take your Legacy Championship from you? But this week I fight Jackson Burnside and let me tell I'm not going to slow down my momentum until I win the UWL World Heavyweight Championship from Anthony Cross. So duck and cover because if you get in my way otherwise I am going to push past everyone in the UWL locker room.

A rocket drops from the bottom of the video screen to the stage and there is a countdown voice over from 5 which fans count down to the pod door opens Ace Sky walks out in an aviator jacket and his usual in ring attire, he salutes a peace sign and jogs down the aisle way high-fiving as many fans as possible on both sides then he dashes forward leaps upon the apron and flings himself in with a front flip followed by a series of three front handsprings into a lotus pose seated in the ring.

Emily Lyle - From Houston, Texas, weighing one hundred and sixty five pounds, he is one half of the UWL Tag Team Champions Ace Sky!!

Cliff Morris - This match has been weeks in the making and here we are!

The bell sounds, Sky runs at Daniels and nails her with a running knee strike. He steps back and runs at Daniels nailing her with a leg lariat. Sky rises up as she lays on the mat. He leaps into the air landing down onto her with a standing moonsault. Sky rises up off the mat.

Cliff Morris - Ace Sky has come out on fire!!

Sky grabs her up and drops Daniels down with the Psychedelic Spiral (Modified swinging fisherman neckbreaker ). He covers her, the referee counts.

Camera fades in backstage as UWL Reporter Abby Joseph is with UWL Television Champion, Daron Smythe...


ABBY: Daron, tonight you defend your UWL Television Title one on one against Garlan Brown, how are you feeling going into tonight's match?

DARON: The winds of changing are sweeping through the UWL - the almighty Billy Danielson is in the opening contest against a rookie and here I am in the semi main event. I would say tonight's result is a foregone conclusion, but I cannot and will not overlook the athlete that Garlan Brown is. A former World Tag Team champion, right? A guy who is going out on his own. A guy who has everything to gain and nothing to lose. There is an old saying "fortune favors the bold". I expect to get everything Garlan Brown has tonight in that ring, but I also expect to leave with this still around my waist *taps UWL Television Title belt*

ABBY: After tonight, what's next for Daron Smythe? You have a future Heritage title shot in your pocket, you're still #1 ranked in the company rankings? What do you think will be in the cards for you at Grand Voyage?

DARON: Sometimes, Abby, I feel like I understand where the UWL Office is heading and sometimes I don't. I wish I had a crystal ball. Here's what I do know - for damn near a year now, I've been showing time and time again that if you give me the ball, I will score. Do I predict rainy days ahead for the Weatherman? Sure. Does Anthony Cross really deserve to carry that World Title around abso f'n lutely not. But, I'll keep playing the game because you know, I know, everyone knows, when you throw me the pitch I'm knocking it out of the park every single time. Let's add in the newest wild card, the closure of the ladies' division. We have a lot of fierce fighting females in this company and now they're looking at the singles titles and I know it's only a matter of time before they coming looking for a shot at the TV Champ.

ABBY: You mentioned the ladies divison folding and one set of titles for both genders, but what about new and returning UWL Superstars?

DARON: It's just been announced that Strike 2 Kill, Liam Richardson, Miles Watson, Mark Storm and Silas Issac Naberius are all coming back to the company and honestly, I welcome them back. A big part of me worries that the UWL Office will shoot them up their ranks - they love "loyalty" from way back, but me? I just keep doing my thing. The UWL Office knows it has a conundrum on its hands - will I follow their rules to the letter? Hell no. But, they keep finding out that I'm more than ready to be THE guy in this company. Six months now holding this title belt - some people think I'm scared to defend it? Sh*t, I'd defend it every single show if someone worthy steps up. Do I honestly seem worried about it?

So UWL Office, I see there's a one night tournament to crown the next #1 contender - there's a ton of pretenders here and you know it! The world is ready for #2StrapsSmythe - hell, I can be the Triple Crown Champ for all I care. #1 ranked, #1 in the 2023 Universal Stampede, #1 Television Champion of all time, and #1 in the hearts of all the UWL fans. It may sound like a broken record but my destiny is to be the UWL World Champion, the only variable is time.

*Daron snaps his fingers and the scene quickly cuts to black*

With Eruption back on the air we're shown the backstage area just behind the entryway. The Weatherman strolls into the shot. He's sweating and breathing heavily following the match with Nick Danger. He picks a water bottle off nearby table and pours it all over his head. It runs down his hair and chest and gets on the Heritage Championship belt.

Jackson Burnside:
"Wooo! Raining baby!"

He empties the bottle and throws it into an empty pin. Water flies all around the room as he shakes his hair out. It even gets on the camera which leaves an annoying droplet in view for the remainder of the segment. He calls for somebody's attention off camera.

Jackson Burnside:
"Hey! Yeah, that camera hot?"

He points over to the camera. Somebody off screen responds an affirmative. He claps his hands together and turns to face it.

Jackson Burnside:
"Alright! I just wanna give a big shout out to my man, the TV Champion! Daron, I know you'll be walking through here in a minute. But in the event our fronts don't meet and cause a storm, I wanna congratulate you formerly on, 'going the distance' two weeks ago. You got a shot now at this beauty here, but first you gotta hang defend your own. I tell you, I smell change in the air and a storm on the horizon. You better bring the fight, 'cause I'm feelin like Garland has your number tonight. Brother, I know that's just gonna make you hungry. Make you famished for my beauty here. Well, just remember that to take it, you gotta conquer the storm. It ain't enough to wait out the rain. A proving ground victory is a far cry from dethroning The Weatheran. Stay frosty, and good luck. You need it."

Burnside smiles and walks off in the direction away from the ring.

The arena's lights go to a dim with different lights flashing. The music kicks in as Garlan Brown steps out as the spotlight shines on him. Brown stands basking in the moment slowly making his way down the aisle with a snarl look on his face.

Emily Lyle - From Marietta, Georgia, weighing two hundred and fifty five pounds, Garland Brown!!

Brown enters the ring turns toward the camera and throws his arms back and lets out a scream as he points forward with one finger out pointing at the camera before turning around moving to his corner.

The lights dim in the arena and the words "I AM #1" flash on the video screen...

BUT THE MEMORY REMAINS

The house lights come back up and standing in the center of the stage, holding a single finger high in the air, is #1 Daron Smythe.

Emily Lyle - From Wheeling, West Virginia, weighing two hundred and fifty six pounds, he is the UWL Television Champion Daron Smythe!!

Smythe looks out at the crowd, some holding up their own version of the single finger salute, as he saunters down the aisle towards the ring, confidently keeping that finger in the air as he steps through the rope and climbs to the second rope in one corner of the ring.

Cliff Morris - We're set to kick things off here tonight...

As the bell sounds. Smythe runs at Brown getting the jump on him. He nails him with a pair of forearm strikes which stuns Brown. Smythe sends him into the ropes. Brown comes off the ropes. He comes back to Smythe, he goes for a clothesline, Brown ducks under. Smythe turns, Brown takes him down with a leaping knee strike. Brown grabs the stunned Smythe. He nails him with a pair of his forearm strikes. Brown comes back with a pair of knife edge chops. Brown grabs Smythe, throwing him with a t-bone suplex, but Smythe rolls through, coming back up to his feet. Smythe runs at Brown taking him down with a standing dropkick. He gets up to his feet. Smythe runs off the ropes back at Brown taking him down with a STO. Smythe turns, he covers him, the referee counts.

Smythe pulls him up off the mat. Brown slaps his arms away. Brown nails him with a pair of knife edge chops.

Logan Acker – The sounds even hurt!

Brown pulls Smythe up off the mat, he whips him over on the mat with a snapmare, he runs off the ropes running back at Smythe nailing him with a running knee to the face, Smythe falls back on the mat grimacing in pain. Brown pulls Smythe up off the mat, he nails Smythe with a pair of forearm strikes, which stun Smythe. Brown runs back into the ropes, he runs back at Smythe, he catches Brown with a dropkick sending Brown down to the mat. Smythe rises up to his feet, he pulls Brown up to his feet. He pulls Brown around, lifting him up and sending him down with a snap suplex. Smythe rises to his feet pulling Brown up with him, as he does Brown throws a pair of kicks at Smythe landing flush into his stomach. Brown runs at Smythe, but gets met with a back elbow which staggers him. Smythe kicks Brown in his stomach, doubling him over. He lifts Brown up, planting him down with a swinging neckbreaker.

Cliff Morris – Daron Smythe needs to stay on the attack and not let up!!

Logan Acker – This is a huge opening!

Smythe grabs Brown, nailing him with hard forearm strikes. He grabs him, throwing him with a Death Valley driver, but Brown manages to land on his feet. Brown gathers himself, Smythe turns. Brown nails him with a kick. Brown grabs him, throwing him down with a flying leg lariat. Brown covers him, the referee counts.

2.. Kick out.

Brown rises up to his feet, he runs at the dazed Smythe nailing him with a running kick staggering him back. Brown steps back, Smythe stumbles off the ropes. He runs at him, as he does Smythe catches him taking Brown arm drag. They both return to their feet, Smythe takes Brown down with a running knee lift. Brown lays back on the mat grimacing in pain. Smythe turns, he grabs Brown throwing him down the mat with a swinging neckbreaker. Both men lay on the mat flat on their backs, the crowd goes wild. The referee stands over both men, they lay flat on their backs on the mat. Smythe slowly rises up first off the mat. He runs at Brown, he runs at him for a lariat, but Brown ducks under. Smythe turns, Brown goes for a lariat of his own, but Smythe ducks under. Brown turns, Smythe lands a Superkick. Brown falls straight back onto the mat. He covers him, the referee counts.

Smythe rises up off the mat. The referee hands him the Television Championship belt.

Cliff Morris - Daron Smythe just made his third defense of the Television Championship. With that third defense under normal circumstances he would earn a shot at the Heritage Championship, but Smythe already has that when he was able to go to the time limit in the Proving Ground.

Smythe stands smacking the Television Championship belt as he walks around the ring.
