The shot opens on a few men sitting behind an expensive looking oak table. The two that are seated are UWL star David Carroll, along with a bespectacled middle-age man with dark hair that's graying on the side. His suit looks like it would cost the average person five to six months salary. Behind them stand Amir and Youssef Saliba, collectively known in UWL as Milites Dei. They stand motionless, dressed in all black, their arms folded behind them and staring straight ahead. David Carroll stands out as the only person present not wearing black, instead opting for a white suit jacket with a forest green collared shirt. He is, of course, smiling confidently.
David: "Good evening everyone. I'm here today with my attorney Carwood Speirs out of St. Petersburg, representing the law firm of Garrity, Speirs and Prescott. Today, I have the unfortunate responsibility to apprise you all of a grave injustice that has befallen me and my congregation, an injustice that has been perpetrated by UWL's owner and booker, Jay Jefferson."
David shifts in his seat a bit while Milites Dei stands behind him unflinching. Mr. Speirs sits comfortably next to him, unphased.
David: "You see, ever since I returned from my sabbatical a few months ago, I have been booked in exactly zero matches, despite having a clean bill of health. My associates behind me, Amir and Saliba, have only been booked as a team once, in dominating fashion. And on UWL's last show of the year, Starrzone, a show emanating out of the historic wrestling town of Greensboro, North Carolina, not a one of us were booked on the show. Who was on the show? Nick Danger? Jeremy Riggs? No disrespect to those two, I'm sure they're fine gentlemen, but they have no business being in the UWL, let alone on a big show. Because of these slights, my attorney Mr. Speirs is going to address Jay Jefferson directly."
David reaches off screen for a glass of water, while his attorney opens his briefcase and pulls out a portfolio. Opening it, he pulls out an off-white piece of printed paper, hands gripping the lower corners to hold it up in front of him.
Speirs: "To Mr. Jay Jefferson. This is an informal notice that we, the law firm of Garrity, Speirs and Prescott, will be investigating yourself as owner of the Universal Wrestling League, as being a party to potential religious discrimination, when it comes to the gainful employment of David Carroll, Amir Saliba and Yousself Saliba. Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 not only protects employees from discrimination based on religion, but it also forbids discrimination when it comes to any aspect of employment, based on hiring, firing, pay, job assignments, promotions, layoffs and any other term or condition of employment. In this case, we are specifically concerned with the job assignments portion previously mentioned. Please be aware that if it is discovered that we believe our clients rights have been violated, we will be pursuing punitive legal recourse against yourself and the Universal Wrestling League. Please expect formal notification to be remitted addressed to yourself in the coming weeks."
As Mr. Speirs read the letter, David just nodded along, looking very solemn the entire time. When the lawyer was done, David let out a rather exaggerated sigh.
David: "I really didn't want it to come to this, Mr. Jefferson. However, when I reached out to you two weeks prior to Starrzone with my concerns, you neglected to respond. I will not just be IGNORED, Jay. This is your hole that you dug, and now you're going to have to reap what you have sown."
David gathers himself as his lawyer puts the document back into the portfolio, which goes back into his briefcase. David takes another sip of water and pushes the glass off-screen before continuing.
David: "Lest you forget what I have done for this company this year. Since I arrived, viewership has gone up, an increase in the amount of talent wanting to sign has gone up exponentially. I am the UWL Coronation Cup winner, and the last show that I was on, I main evented over the UWL Champion. You should really learn to keep your actual talent happy, rather than give opportunities to those who don't put in the work or deserve them. You can still make this right though. Universal Stampede is coming up on January 6th. Not only do I expect that myself, and Milites Dei, are all included in the match, but I am expecting a favorable position in that match. If you don't want me to take further legal action against you, then you'll do the right thing. You don’t want to alienate or make an enemy out of myself or my Church, do you Mr. Jefferson? This isn't a warning, no. This is just simply a piece of advice, from a Godfearing shepherd whose flock grows daily. From myself, and the rest of the Spirit and Truth Church, I wish you all a happy and prosperous new year."
With another smile from David, the scene slowly fades out.
