Cory Chevelle on Good Morning America

Good Morning America...

Cory Chevelle is backstage GMA with his daughter, Haley. It was almost time for the UWL World Heavyweight Champion to go out before the cameras and the people. Chevelle was sharply dressed in a gradient navy blue suit. The suit looked snug on him and it was, but it had a regal look with that UWL World Heavyweight Championship. The champ waited for his que which finally came from producer on site. Michael Strahan announced Chevelle by name and out he came. He didn't smile as he joined the broadcast crew, or look around graciously waving and graveling to fans. Chevy was all business it seemed. He shook each hand at the table before sitting down, the UWL World Heavyweight Championship draped over his left shoulder. The belt shined beautifully in the lighting on set as it rest on massive shoulder of Cory Chevelle.

Michael Strahan:
Man! Shaking hands with you is like shaking hands with a bear!

George Stephanopoulos:
He's a very intimidating man, isn't he! Hey Cory, Thanks for joining us this morning. laughs

Robyn Roberts;
Yes we're very excited to have you on! Cory Chevelle, Olympic Gold medalist, multi-time pro-wrestling champion, and combat sports!

Michael Strahan:
One of the most decorated athletes in the country! Finally!

George S.:
So Cory, you don't have a "gimmick" really, right? You're pretty much yourself errr, as you are off camera? Did that make sense? Haha!

Cory Chevelle:
Nah George I understood ya. No, I don't have a gimmick. I'm pretty much me just cranked up to 1000. I don't act. I don't take and memorize a script from anybody. But I've worked to get that kind of trust from the promoters.

Robyn Roberts:
Yeah that's what we were talking about about before the show. You're basically you and the fans seem to love it. Well some may not...

Cory Chevelle:
The fans recognize authenticity. The more authentic you are when you're the one on air, whether they love it or hate it, they recognize it and make noise for it.

Robyn Roberts:
Well we're told they've been making plenty of noise. Especially for you and your latest rival, Jackson Burnside, is that right?

Chevelle goes from casual/playful in his demeanor to a more serious and modestly aggressive demeanor and tone. His chest hurts as his back straightens, his arms tense and flex through the jacket of the suit.

Cory Chevelle:
Yeah, "The WEATHERMAN" they call him. Yeah, we've had a rivalry going for a minute now... Lemme tell ya about The WEATHERMAN, Jackson Burnside. This little bas- excuse me, punk! In all honesty, I can't stand the sonuva[DJ SCRATCH] and the sad thing is, he's my biggest challenger yet next to Daron Smythe. But ya see JB is one of the three losses I've had since my return to UWL. He's one of a select few in this business right now that can say he has a clean win over me. So as much as I wanna sit here and tell the world I can't wait to kick The Weatherman's a[DJ SCRATCH] again, I have to keep in mind the dumb[DJ SCRATCH] is good enough to beat me in the first place.

Chevelle pauses a moment, then leans forward in his chair while staring straight in the camera.

Cory Chevelle:
This is how it's gonna go...

That bell is gonna ring, ding ding ding!

Jackson Burnside stands across from true greatness, the TRUE UWL HEAVYWEIGHT KING

Then my dude, brother, dude!

No shaking hands, cuz Papa Chevy's rude

He and I will lock up in the center of the ring,
But Chevy's got him in the clinch, throwing elbows that sting!

Jackson Burnside, forecast; soon to be dead!
Because Chevy's coming; Coming to drop you on your head!

The broadcast crew clap, Michael Strahan particularly seems to be entertained and enjoying the promo.

Michael Strahan:
You were an Ali fan weren't you?

Cory Chevelle:
Absolutely. Though he was probably better at it.

Robyn Roberts:
How do you come up with some of the stuff you say?

Cory Chevelle:
Oh hell that's easy, I just think of the most off the wall backwoods-hillbilly sounding phrase or slang or foul mouthed thing I can say and run with it.

Michael Strahan:
And that's all good on your show, but here we try to keep it family friendly.

Cory Chevelle:
Oof, I dunno man you're asking a lot..

Everyone laughed like he was kidding, but Chevy wasn't kidding. At. All.

Michael Strahan:
Well Cory I gotta ask ya, you're 44 and in peak condition man, how do you maintain yourself and work the schedule you work. Because you still farm too right?

Cory Chevelle:
Yep, still farm. Beef and grain baby! But uh, I've been fortunate enough to stay healthy, plus the small hiatuses I went on over the years. Physically I feel I'm still in my prime and I intend to keep this run going as long as my body will hold together.

George Stephanopoulos:
What's your best on the bench?

Cory Chevelle:
Six-fifty, I've done seven-hundred a couple times. But these days I try to focus on cardio and agility. I wanna be able to move and be as agile as I was in my twenties. Something I'm working on for the ring..

George Stephanopoulos:
Now there's another promotion you and the rest of the UWL are at odds with too right?

Cory Chevelle:
At "odds" that's cute! Yeah you could call it that.

Robyn Roberts:
What's the story there Chevy?

Cory Chevelle:
Bunch of slack jawed maggots who think they know how to do what we do better. They bump their gums a lot but they don't want really want none. They even pulled a stunt on the last Eruption...

Que a playback of WWA's arrival and interference during Sunday nights Eruption. Chevelle does not look pleased as the footage plays. He can be heard saying "See everyone should have been on their toes and these clowns dropped the damn ball like a hot brick!

Cory Chevelle:
Here's what it is. WWA wants UWL's history and they wanna ride our coat tails. Now normally I wouldn't give a crap but these butt nuggets mentioned me early on, and since I'm the world champ it's up to me to serve as a sort of role model for the up and comers... So we're gonna knock their teeth down their throat!

George Stephanopoulos:
Oh my!

Robyn Roberts:
...WOW!

Cory Chevelle:
What? That's how you handle things like this in our world.

Robyn Roberts:
No talking things over or working anything out huh just... Knocking teeth out!

The team is obviously a little nervous and uncomfortable. But Chevy just leans back and laughs.

Cory Chevelle
Yeah that sounds like a decent day at the office!

Michael Strahan:
Heard that. Sometimes I have days where I wanna knock some you know what down you know where...

Cory Chevelle:
Hell Mike my fist would probably slide right between the gap in your teeth as it is!

Strahan doesn't catch what Chevelle said, and fires off another question.

Michael Strahan:
Alright Chevy

George Stephanopoulos:
Um, excuse me. Were you kidding or being rude?

Cory Chevelle:
Neither. Just having some fun. Why, that not permitted either?

Robyn Roberts:
George trash talk is a big part of what Chevy does. I'm sure sometimes he forgets to turn it off..

George Stephanopoulos:
Well what if I were to say Cory Chevelle, you stink as a wrestler!

George is clearly being cheesy but Chevy's bored with the segment, so he bites and he's running with it.

Cory Chevelle:
I'd tell you take the hamster out from your a[DJ SCRATCH] and rethink what you just said because I'm the best in the god damn world and got the gold to prove it. Whatchu got? The same hand me down day time Emmy's they hand out every year to shows that just do the same crap day after day...

Total silence. Chevy comes flying forward in his chair, stopping after his fists collide into the top of the table. It startles some of the cast but everyone laughs it off including Chevy.

Cory Chevelle:
C'mon George, lay into me!

George Stephanopoulos:
No that's okay I think I need to check my pants after that. You're an intimidating guy!

Robyn Roberts:
But Jackson Burnside doesn't think so, haha.

Cory Chevelle:
JB's had a lot of trauma to his head. I wouldn't put much stock into what he thinks.

Michael Strahan:
Alright let's get back on track here, Chevy! Who do you see taking the Coronation Cup this year!?

Cory Chevelle:
Hopefully me, Or Braddock, or my lady, Nicole Sanders. Love ya babe!

Michael Strahan:
Shout out Nicole I'm guessing. Okay, now this is a tournament they do every year right?

Cory Chevelle
Every year, it's history much like everything else in UWL is very rich. A lot of who's-who have won it. I haven't yet but I also wasn't in it last year...

The bit continued on to Chevy's internal agony. Finally after going to another break he was through with it and after respectfully parting ways with the cast he made his way backstage where Haley waited for him.

Haley Chevelle:
You were great out there dad!

Cory Chevelle:
Oh like hell I was! That was a friggin nightmare Haley. Oh well, glad it's over now I can get outta this damn suit and we can get outta here.

Haley Chevelle:
Umm, so first you gotta do a signing before you leave. There's actually a lot of people out there waiting on you so we need to move, like, now!

Chevy rolled his eyes. He should have known better. Can't ever just go do one thing some where and be done and get out. Always gotta stick around and sign some shit or smile for a photo op,play politics with someone he doesn't give a rats ass about. He followed Haley down some corridors until they came to a set of double doors. Haley looked to her father with a reassuring smile before shoving the first door open. Upon entering Chevelle was greeted by wrestling fans from various corners of the country. Some boo'd him playfully, but everyone in that room was there to see him. He tried to scope the room and do a head count. It was more than he wanted that was all he knew. But Chevy entered and took his seat next to Haley, pen in hamd as a line formed.

Cory Chevelle:
Haley.. I love you but I wanna shoot you right now.
