Meanwhile... In Tennessee
While her father was occupied between training in the gym and sight seeing with his girlfriend, Haley had started venturing out more herself with a friend she found herself growing closer and closer to. BRADDOCK and her had been going out to eat in the best hole-in-the-wall bars and restaurants they could find with each town they went to over the past week. She was having fun, he was having fun, they were having fun. Tonight would be no different except it was Haley taking him out on a date tonight.
And she couldn't wait to see him.
When the filth pig wanted to, he could clean up with the best of them. She noticed that during the wedding they went to a while back. Tonight she wanted to not only take him to a nice meal some where and make him go dancing once again but she wanted to show him he belonged anywhere he dared to stand. After all, Braddock was always on her about how they're from different worlds and this and that. Tonight she wanted to show not just her client, but her friend just how much he belonged, and wanted him to actually feel part of it.
But that would probably be easier said than done she realized.
Haley stood in front of her bathroom mirror, freshly showered and semi-dressed while she put her make up on. She gleefully sang a long to Garth Brooks as "Friends in low places" played in the background. Her voice smooth and sweet, with perfect pitch.
"Blame it all on my roots...
I showed up in boots...
And ruined your black tie affair"
She laughed, as her father crossed her mind from memories of him singing to her when she was a child. But her father lasts in her mind only momentarily before Braddock took his place once again. She could see that man showing up and ruining someone's day with a smile on his face.
But never her's.
Suddenly Haley stopped and smiled. Her smile then turned to a giggle as she glanced up at the ceiling and shook her head. Just friends, they work together. Surely he wasn't getting under her skin and.. she shook her head at the next thought and brushed it off. Reassuring herself it was the combination of nostalgia with the music, the glass of bourbon she was sipping on, and girl stuff as she called it.
Suddenly there was a knock at the door. Haley seemed confused, it was too early to be Braddock. She left the bathroom and opened the door only to find her father and Nicole standing outside.
"Daddy! Hey! Hey Nicole, my gosh you look great this evening! Come on in!"
"We came to see what your plans for dinner were, if you wanted to come out with us maybe..."
Her dad glanced around the room until he found the speaker the music was coming from. He began nod with approval, while sliding his left arm behind Nicole and around her waist, pulling her in.
"Actually daddy I have plans tonight. With Braddock."
"Again? Jesus, you two have been attached at the hip all week.."
"Oh we haven't either! All we do is go out get something to eat and have some drinks and maybe if I'm lucky and he gets drunk enough I can get em to go dancing. We're not attached at the hip dad."
Nicole looks up at Cory with a grin as Chevelle stands there clueless on what to say. He wants to tease her but seems hesitant or reluctant to.
"Well we could double-"
"I don't think she wants to do that tonight babe. Let her go out and have a good time with her friend! Do you not trust Braddock?"
"What? Of course I trust Brad-"
"Then quit it. You know what you're doing."
"Whoa, whoa whoa! Are you two trying to hang up on me tonight? She's a grown woman she can do what ever the hell she wants. Just don't mix business with personal, that's all I try to-"
Nicole puts her right index over Chevy's mouth and silences him. Haley can't help but laugh. She couldn't even remember her own mother having that kind of hold over other dad. Nicole looked at Haley and Haley looked back at her, adding a wink and a smile as a sort of unspoken thank you.
"Alright well, have a good time I guess. Keep Braddock out of trouble if you can."
"Oh that's no problem. He's usually on his best behavior when I'm around."
"Yeah, I reckon he is. Huh.."
Nicole quickly chimes in
"Don't worry about your dad, Haley. He'll be in good hands with me.
"Oh girl I have no worries there. You got him whipped already!"
"HA! More like I got her whipped!"
"Excuse me, do I need to tell her about-"
"NOPE!"
"Tell me about what? What'd you do now dad?"
"Nothing. She's had a lil too much to drink already.."
"Excuse me.."
"Well babe we better get going, let Haley finish getting ready. I'll call you later ok sweetheart?"
"Thank you Daddy, have a good night you two!"
She graciously followed them to the door as they left. Closing her door, Haley put her back to the door and giggled to herself. Then she noticed the time on a nearby wall clock and realized she was running behind. Time to hurry!
Cory and Nicole got into Cory's new Demon Hellcat and leave the hotel. Nicole looked at Cory, baring this cute devilish grin on her face as she began to speak.
"So have you figured it out yet babe?"
"Hmm, figured what out? Where we're going tonight, yeah I told you already.."
"No, Cory.. I mean Braddock and who he's falling for..."
"No, who do you think it is?"
Nicole's shoulders dropped like she'd just been deflated. She didn't wanna state the painfully obvious to Chevy but she was going to. For everyone's sake later on, the sooner he had time to digest it and process it the better, she thought.
"Babe... it's Haley."
Chevy's first reaction was to laugh. Then the laughter stopped and his face became very rigid, firm, as the idea was quite a sobering one for him.
"Oh God damn... I think You're right Nicole."
