Kelsey Gibbs: Welcome back, Nashville. Before we head into sports, let's take a quick look at some local events happening around the city this weekend. The Music City Jazz Festival kicks off today at Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park, featuring some of the finest jazz musicians from around the country. And don't forget about the Nashville Comedy Festival, with performances by some of the funniest comedians in the business. Now, let's switch gears and check in with Jon Burton for the latest in sports. Jon, what do you have for us?
Jon Burton: Thanks, Kelsey. This Saturday, all eyes in the sports world will be on the Municipal Auditorium here in Nashville as the Universal Wrestling Corporation presents Grand Voyage. It's going to be an action-packed night with some of the biggest names in professional wrestling. But the main attraction of the evening will be the semi-finals and finals of the Coronation Cup, a tournament that's been building up for weeks now.
In one of the semi-final matches, we have the current UWL World Champion, "The Silverback" Cory Chevelle, taking on "#1" Daron Smythe. Now, this match is intriguing for several reasons. First off, Chevelle and Smythe are the first competitors to make it to the semi-finals of the Coronation Cup in over a decade. Chevelle defeated Smythe for the World Title back in September in a four-way elimination match in Chicago, Illinois. Since then, Chevelle has been the most dominant superstar in the company, gaining the respect of fans despite his rough persona.
Smythe, on the other hand, has claimed that regaining the world title is his destiny. He won the title at last year's Grand Voyage event and has a history of holding onto championships, including the UWL Television Title, which he never lost in the ring.
In our other semi-final match, we have BRADDOCK facing off against Billy Danielson. BRADDOCK is a Hardcore Legend who seemingly feels no pain. He's captured World Titles in several other organizations and could be a wild card in this tournament. Meanwhile, Billy Danielson, known as The GOAT, has held every championship there is to hold in the UWL. The Chicago native may be on a mission to prove that his time has not passed yet, and he's still the greatest of all time.
It's going to be an electrifying night of wrestling action, and I can't wait to see who comes out on top. Back to you, Kelsey.
