Beyond the Mat
The formation by Jay Jefferson
Years ago, on one of the anniversaries, we did a podcast talking about the history of this place. I thought while I was alone and killing time before I had to go to a meeting that I'd start a series on, just in fact, the history of our fine fed. We have a lot of people around now who probably have no clue about anything I am about to say.
I started this place in November of 2005. I had just come off a lengthy stent as the booker of a place called More Power Wrestling (MPW). Yes, I was the legit booker of the fed. The Fed had an owner and match writers, but I served as a booker. It's the only time since I have seen a set up like that. But it was MPW, and they did things differently sometimes, not always for the best, but that's another story. After building MPW up over several months, the owner, who was an idiot when it came to this game and wrestler knowledge in general, He wanted to take over as booker. It was his fed so I stepped aside. I stepped back in competing as a RPer. But I just wasn't feeling that side of the game anymore. I had run feds before: Premier Wrestling Federation and Total Wrestling Network. Both feds, I must say, had success. So I thought, Hey, why not try it again after I had just spent this time booking for someone else? Why not do it for myself? I was a huge fan of Pro-Wrestling NOAH at the time. I have always loved territorial wrestling, and I was a big fan of ROH at the time, in 2005. I knew I wanted to merge those styles together into what I wanted, match-writing-wise and booking-wise. Then I had to think of a name. I went through names such as Universal Championship Wrestling (UCW), Universal Wrestling Conference (UWL), Universal Wrestling Network (UWN), Down South Wrestling (DSW), Premier Wrestling Council (PWC), and of course, we know the name I chose. Then there were the titles. We would have Heavyweight Title, Heritage, Tag Team, Jr. Heavyweight, Southeastern. The Jr. Heavyweight would later be renamed the Pride Title under Pure Wrestling rules. Now we had our groundwork in place and were ready to debut. We debuted on our first show on December 14, 2005. We had two matches that showed. Yes, two matches. Hey, you have to start somewhere, lol.
Until next time when we'll pick up with the Heavyweight Title tournament and our first year.
