1..2..3!
The pinfall has just occured and Daron Smythe rolls away from a downed Cyrus Rinaldi, who is trying to get the referee's attention, but the ref is already grabbing the UWL World Title belt and handing it to Daron Smythe. Rinaldi protests from the mat fall on deaf ears as Smythe throws the belt on his shoulder and gets his hand raised in the air by the referee. Smythe looks over at Rinaldi shrugs his shoulders and rolls out of the ring, slapping the hands of the fans at ringside as "The Memory Remains" by Metallica blares over the PA system in the arena. Cyrus is left pleading his case to anyone around him at ringside, the timekeeper, the commentary team, the fans, as Daron walks up the ramp, throwing his arms up in the air triumphantly. Daron walks through the backstage curtain and heads to the locker room where he is immediately met by UWL backstage interviewer Abby Joseph
ABBY: Daron! Daron! Can I get a word with you quickly?!
Daron stops, wiping the sweat from his brow, nodding at Abby...
ABBY: Tonight you successfully defended the UWL World Championship, how are you feeling after the win?
DARON: It's a feeling of vindication, honestly. I made the mistake of underestimating Cyrus Rinaldi the first time we fought - for that TWN Championship, but not tonight. That first time I was in a really rough spot. Some of the doubts started to creep in and I have to admit, I was really frustrated with myself for letting my guard down and losing that match. That match was a wake up call. I went on the run of my life in the Coronation Cup, but I knew Cyrus was going to be in line for a title shot and he damn sure should've been. This time I wasn't going to let my guard down - he may be a loudmouth but he can back it up in the ring.
ABBY: It seems like Cyrus was able to get his foot on the bottom rope before the three count tonight, but the referee didn't see it. Do you think Cyrus has a legitimate beef with the ending of that match?
DARON: Yeah, I saw ol Cryrus in the ring complaining to anyone who would listen - it's real funny because in April when he used that chair in the TWN title match, no one said a peep. I don't recall Cryrus complaining about the referee in that match, do you?
ABBY: And it seems social media is already exploding, with UWL talent like Cory Chevelle trying to get a #Justice4Cyrus trending on X?
DARON: Damn, I thought Cory was better than that? The toughest guy in the UWL now has Twitter fingers? Oh, how the mighty have fallen...
ABBY: And furthermore, it seems like the UWL Office has announced the main event for Eruption in two weeks where you will be teaming with Billy Danielson and the "The Weatherman" Jackson Burnside to take on Cyrus Rinaldi, Cory Chevelle, and BRADDOCK - plus, they will have a special announcement to make regarding the ending to tonight's World Title match.
DARON: WOW, where was this energy in April when Cryrus cheated to win his participation trophy? I heard you tonight Cryrus trying to turn that around on me - but you see, I was right. You cheated in that match and no one was stepping down from on high to make any special announcement or ruling about that, were they? But now, when the shoe is on the other foot, suddenly everyone comes out of the woodwork. All the haters are out in full force now, aren't they? The same people who wouldn't even acknowledge my name a year ago are bitching and moaning about me. I've got something for all of you in two weeks in Ashville. It might as well be a 5-on-1 handicap match, and you know what? I'm alright with that. There's a thin line between bravery and stupidity and if I'm going down I'm going down swinging and I'm taking some of you crybabies and complainers with me!
Daron walks off, defiantly swinging the UWL World Title belt over his shoulder as Abby signals to the cameraman to end the interview...
