It is the aftermath of Eruption and Jackson Burnside's return. The confrontation with Caleb Hart was just a few moments ago. Abby Joseph is waiting for him. It's obvious that she's surprised he's even there at all. It was only a few moments ago she dismissed the camera crew outside waiting for Burnside's arrival, thinking that he wouldn't be here in Chicago. Jackson is speaking with someone off camera. He doesn't even see Abby waiting just a few feet behind him.
Jackson Burnside:
"Look just make sure that kid gets checked out." He starts to turn around, muttering to himself. "Putting that kid up against Caleb Hart, the f-" He stops himself when he says Abby. "were they... thinking..."
Jackson eyes Abby up and down. He stands patiently waiting. The towel he threw into the ring is over one shoulder, and the shirt he tore off over the other. Abby stares up at Jackson without saying anything. The big man look around and, when he doesn't find anyone, conofronts Abby.
Jackson Burnside:
"You here for me or someone else brother? 'Cause honestly I hope it's me."
Abby Joseph:
"When did you get here?"
Jackson feigns a smile because he knows that Abby is annoyed.
Jackson Burnside:
"Abby, brother I've, well I've been here all night."
Burnside scratches the back of his head as he comes clean. Abby Joseph's emotions run wild for a moment, jumping from surprise to anger and annoyance. Just as quickly though she regains her professional composure.
Abby Joseph:
"I had a whole crew. Cameras." She points off in an indiscriminate direction. "Outside. Waiting for you. Why didn't you let me know? H-How did nobody know you here?!"
Jackson Burnside:
"I found a little spot, kept my head low. Abby, c'mon." Abby is still mad at Jackson and no little grin is going to change that. "You, you know why. We're in Chicago, my home turf brother and for weeks people have been askin' about me. 'Where is Jackson Burnside?!' 'Is Jackson done?' 'Did Caleb Hart run Mr. Burnside outta town!' Truth is I needed a few weeks to take care of some business, and since we're in Chicago tonight dude, well I wanted to surprise everyone. I wanted to break up a fight, have 'Superbeast' blare over the PA system as I ran down and cracked some heads. Or failing that I wanted Eruption to go off the air, and then come out after the TV Title match gets over and talk to the people."
Abby Joseph:
"That didn't get to happen, did it?" Abby nods her head at the towel. "Why did you come out to throw in the towel for Tyler Barrett?"
Jackson Burnside:
"I saw what was going on. I saw Hart messing with that dude, and it churned my stomach. I felt like somethin' bad was gonna happen, and I was right. If I hadn't gone out there... instead of gettin' checked out around the corner by the med staff he'd be gettin checked out two blocks down the street at the hospital. I did what any decent person shoulda done, and I got that kid the Hell outta there."
Abby Joseph:
"Plus you got to get your hands on Caleb."
Jackson Burnside smiles. He balls his hand into a fist and looks at it.
Jackson Burnside:
"A couple'a big rights huh?"
Abby Joseph:
"So is that what's next? You aiming for Caleb Hart and the UWL Championship?"
Jackson Burnside:
"Would you think anything else? Abby dude, I don't make excuses. It's not the kinda guy I am. Jackson Burnside is a man, and a man takes ownership of his mistakes and when he falls short. I fell short at Grand Voyage and lost to one of the most gifted wrestlers, and maybe the most seasoned veteran that UWL has to offer. Truth me told brother, it hurts." Jackson pats over his heart. "It cuts real deep brother, that people would think I got mad and quit because I lost. Growin' up was hard. I learned early and often that you don't always win, in fact you rarely do. But ya lose, you get it. You get your nose broken, you crack it back into place. You keep trying and maybe after 108 years you show the world you can still reach the top of the mountain. Yeah brother, of course I want Caleb. It ain't just about winning back the UWL Heavyweight Title, it's about proving something to myself.
And now I know I got a long way to go. A lotta dudes back here, a lotta brothers on the roster all want a crack at Caleb Hart and truth be told there's guys who deserve it more'n me. It's time to work. Time to get my hands dirty. Because Jackson Burnside doesn't get beat once and get burnt out. I go out there in two weeks and I win a match. While Caleb Hart goes to London to try and become UWL World Heavyweight Champion, I beat whoever gets penciled in across from me. One day, title or no title, I get a second crack at Hart. On that day Abby I promise you, promise everybody who believes in me and my dream... I'm going to show Caleb Hart that not even he can stop a man who has nothing to lose, and the world to gain."
Jackson puts his hand on Abby's shoulder. Its a simple gesture that says more than words could.
Jackson Burnside:
"I need to go see for Tyler Barrett's doing."
