#1 Daron Smythe was a guest on today's episode of the Aftershock Podcast with Abby Joseph and discussed the following topics:
On his match with Robb Daniels on the 8-6 episode of Eruption:
"No matter how he's portraying himself inside the ring or out of it, Robb's double tough and on the top of his game. Did I think I could beat him? Hell yeah I did. Do I think I could beat him in the future? Absolutely. But, I can say on that night, the better man won. Robb's on his way back to the top and I respect him for the way he's handling his business. A guy like that could rest on his laurels or coast on his past accomplishments, but not him. No, he's working his way all the way back to the top from the bottom rung of the ladder. I've clearly got some work to do. I've been out of the ring a long time - am I making excuses? No. I know that Robb would tell you I gave him a helluva battle that could've gone either way. I think Robb is on his way to being UWL World Champion and I'd like to think when he gets to that point I'll be ready to challenge him. I think if he decided to go for the UWL Tag Team Titles, we could roll anyone you put in our way. We are a lot alike, Robb and I, and I hope to see him again in the ring real soon, either on the same time or on opposite sides of the ring"
On his opponent for Saturday's Eruption, Ace Sky:
"Ace is completely different from Robb Daniels and I gotta respect him for being his own man. From what I can tell, the guy keeps himself in tremendous shape and has his fair share of battle scars along the way. He's got a ton of experience at a relatively young age - him and I are about the same age, so I know he's been between those ropes a time or two. I can understand he's trying to see higher understanding and be all zen-like, but like a great man once said 'Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.' This Saturday, Badstreet, Atlanta, GA, Ace can take to the sky, but I fight on the ground and we are gonna see who comes out on top."
On his opponent at the next PPV event, Tyler Barrett:
"Tyler Barrett is an interesting dude, a homegrown talent, who lost his way for a bit, reenergized himself as King Pantera, and now all that's gone, man. I actually studied Tyler Barrett a bit when I was preparing for Robb Daniels - Robb had faced off with him two weeks prior. He's a tough, young kid, former big time athlete, but I see him as a stepping stone on to bigger and better things. I'm not looking past you, Tyler, don't take it like that, but I see myself in the main event and in that road to the main event, you're just a slight detour, pal!"
On Anthony Cross continuously picking against him:
"They say 'Fool Me Once, Shame On You, Fool Me Twice, Shame On Me' - Anthony Cross is sitting high and mighty right now, he's the Heritage Champion, he's getting carried - I said it, CARRIED - to victories by Caleb Hart, the World's Champion, and he keeps picking me to lose. Hey, I get it Anthony, you've got a million dollar body and you've got a friend in Caleb who just might be the best in the world, but for that million dollar body, you've got a ten cent brain, son. I get it, you're a big dog around here, you're a two-time Heritage Champion - but everyone knows you've only got that belt because your buddy Caleb forfeited the title. I realize that right now we may be an ocean away from each other in the rankings but the drought is coming and I am gonna get my hands on you and make you regret doubting me for one single solitary second!"
What's in the immediate future for #1 Daron Smythe?
"It looks like the first step on the path to the World's Championship is the Television Title, held by one Billy Danielson. I'm not there, yet, but let me get a few victories under my belt and I'll be sure to challenge ya, champ. Billy, you're a two-time champ and I get it, loyalty to the brand is rewarded around here, but I'm not one to sit around and just wait for my spot to open, I'm gonna step up and grab that brass ring. You've got Tyler Barrett next and then a little three way at the Pape and then when that's all said and done, you're gonna have to face off with me. Now, that's #1 and done!"
