The lights in the arena suddenly go out, which sparks the usual mixed reactions from the crowd. Some people murmur in confusion, some scream their heads off, some get brave and shout things they normally wouldn't. The din of a thousand cell phones can be seen throughout the crowd, providing pockets of illumination.
Logan Acker: What's going on now, Cliff?
Cliff Morris: Beats me.
After a few seconds, the screens in the arena come to life with one word, written in a golden font against a black backdrop...
JOSHUA
A commotion sweeps across the crowd, but no discernable questions or statements can be made out. The word disappears, followed by another.
ARRIVING SOON
After a few seconds, the screens shut off and the lights in the arena come back on.
Cliff Morris: Well I guess we'll be seeing someone named Joshua pretty soon.

[The backstage area is bustling with activity as Abby Joseph, the UWL Reporter, stands by with the reigning UWL World Champion, Daron Smythe. Smythe, with the championship belt draped over his shoulder, looks focused and determined as he prepares to address the upcoming Fatal Four Way Elimination Match.]
ABBY: Ladies and gentlemen, I'm here with the man who has held the UWL World Championship since May 27th, Daron Smythe. Daron, tonight is Parade of Champions, and you're defending your title in a Fatal Four Way Elimination Match against three formidable challengers. How are you feeling heading into this high-stakes contest?
[Daron smirks and adjusts the championship belt on his shoulder before responding.]
DARON: Abby, let me make one thing clear. I've been on top of the UWL mountain for months, and tonight won't be any different. Jackson Burnside, Cory Chevelle, and BRADDOCK, they're all stepping into my world, the world I've dominated since becoming the UWL World Champion.
[He glances at the belt, his pride evident.]
DARON: I've beaten the best this industry has to offer, and I've done it time and time again. But lately, I've been feeling a lack of respect. Being bumped down to #2 in the rankings? Unacceptable. And Burnside parading around with two titles? That's a joke. I should be the one chasing history, chasing that Triple Crown championship. Has anyone answered that burning question yet - why I was forced to relinquish the Television Title when I won this championship, while Jackson Burnside is seemingly going to get the chance to hold THREE titles at the same time? The good news is - titles are won and lost in that ring out there. The UWL brass can manipulate the system however they like and favor their "Originals" all they want but when the bell rings, EVERYONE will see once again why I am the top dog, why I am the best in the business today, why I am and WILL STILL BE YOUR UWL WORLD CHAMPION!
[Abby nods, acknowledging Daron's frustration.]
ABBY: You've mentioned feeling disrespected, especially by Jackson Burnside, who's been portraying himself as an underdog. How do you plan to address that in the ring tonight?
[Daron's expression grows more serious as he leans in toward the camera.]
DARON: Tonight, I disprove the Weatherman's forecast, I rain on his parade. He can play the underdog all he wants - it's funny how you consider yourself this underlooked underdog. You barely mention me by name, you've treated me like an after thought. Just like I said - if you don't have that legacy name around here, those UWL "Originals" tend to disrespect you. Well, all of those so-called "legends" are gone and for the past year and change, I've been the backbone of UWL, and tonight, I'm going to remind everyone why they call me the World Champion. Why they call me #1.
[Abby shifts the conversation to the other challengers.]
ABBY: What about Cory Chevelle and BRADDOCK? How do you plan to deal with their unique challenges?
[Daron smirks again, displaying confidence.]
DARON: Chevelle, the Silverback, and BRADDOCK, the hardcore monster – they're big, they're bad, but they're not on my level. I saw that first hand two weeks ago on Eruption. Yeah, I was on the losing team, but who got pinned? Not the champ. I have to admit, these two are some of the toughest I've ever seen, but I've faced monsters before, and I've put them down. Tonight won't be any different. They're just obstacles in my way of solidifying my legacy alongside the greats like Caleb Hart, Billy Danielson, and Robb Daniels.
[Daron looks directly into the camera, addressing the UWL universe.]
DARON: I've been a fighting champion, defending this title against all comers. Tonight will be no different. I'll walk out of Parade of Champions still the UWL World Champion, and no one can change that.
[Daron Smythe smirks one final time before walking away, leaving Abby Joseph to wrap up the backstage promo.]
ABBY: Strong words from Daron Smythe, the UWL World Champion. We'll see if he can back them up tonight in the Fatal Four Way Elimination Match at Parade of Champions. Stay tuned, folks.

We're backstage with Abby Joseph, standing in front of a large promotional poster for Parade of Champions in an interview staging area.
Abby Joseph: "Chicago, please join me in welcoming your UWL Heritage and Television Champion, The Weatherman Jackson Burnside!"
There's a big ovation from the crowd as Abby mentions the championships, and it grows twice after. First as she begins to speak of The Weatherman, and again when Burnside steps into the shot. He's got on a long leather trench coat over his ring gear. The Television Championship is prominent over his right shoulder, and the Heritage belt is around his waist, almost entirely obscured from view by his coat. Burnside realizes this so he casually moves part of the coat aside behind him so the belt is more visible.
Abby tries to start the interview, but Burnside raies a hand and cuts her off.
Jackson Burnside: "Abigail, brother, you know I have a ton of respect for you and what you do here. Right? But we're here in Chicago, and if you don't mind dude I want to address these people - my people - directly!"
The crowd cheers. Abby surrenders the microphone to Burnside and slinks out of the shot. He mouths "thank you" to her, then centers himself and looks right into the camera.
Jackson Burnside: "CHICAGO!!! Tonight the Weatherman has come home, the Superbeast has returned to Chicago, and Jackson Burnside plans on rising to the top of the UWL again! Here in my favorite city, my home, I'm going to beat three of the baddest, toughest dudes in UWL. Dude if you though the streets were wild when the Cubbies broke the curse in 2016, just wait until Parade of Champions goes off the air and I am your Heritage, Television, and new UWL World Heavyweight Champion!"
There's another uproar from the crowd. Burnside has his hometown in the palm of his hand as he continues.
Jackson Burnside: "So we're gonna go down the line, and talk about the three dudes I gotta beat tonight. First, there' BRADDOCK! He's a mean, vicious son of a gun, not the kind of dude you wanna bump into an alleyway on the southside, or any side really. But I wanna make something clear to BRADDOCK brother: right now you're riding purely on momentum. You've got that new guy hype train behind ya, and fact is dude I don't think you can go the distance. You pinned me two weeks ago, then you worked with the Silverback to beat me like a red-headed step-child! I ain't forgotten that, but tonight you're all on your own brother! Cory Chevelle isn't your buddy guy, and he certainly ain't your friend buddy! You're playin' with the big boys, and you're used to bein' a big fish in a small pond. Deathmatch bingo halls, UWL main events - those are two different animals brother, and fact is you aren't ready. Another time, anther year, another opponent maybe. But tonight, 2023, UWL, The Weatherman, in Chicago?! Not a chance!"
Burnside can't help but grin. He's happy with himself and rolling now. His face is turning pink, he's even starting to sweat as he gets himself hyped up.
Jackson Burnside: "Then there's Cory Chevelle!" Burnside is forced to wait as the crowd boos loudly. "I know, I know I don't like him either. The big, scaaaary Silverback. The big man I beat a few weeks ago to win this right here." Burnside postures and raises his right shoulder to draw attention to the TV Title belt. "Months ago I said I wasn't scared of Chevy, and even though he beat the Hell outta me two weeks ago that hasn't changed. 'Cause all I hear from Cory is a lot of coping. Says he didn't care about the TV Title. says he only wants the World Title to fufill is mission in UWL. I got a challenge for Mr. Chevelle: how about you try and say all that again without crying like a baby! Fact one, I beat you brother. Fact two, I'ma beat you again tonight. Fact three, you want to accomplish the one thing you haven't in UWL, become the World Champion, you'll have to come through me. Tonight I'm in that ring with ya, and after I win you'll have to rip the belt from my cold dead hands! You couldn't get the job done at Under Pressure, and you won't get it done any time soon! I owe you a beatin' brother. I'm cashing that receipt tonight in Chicago!"
The crowd pops loudly again. Burnside is breathing hard now. He removes his sunglasses and tucks them into a pocket in his coat. He gets super serious now. The microphone is right up by his mouth and he speaks lower.
Jackson Burnside: "Daron Smythe. Your road to the top started when you eliminated me from the Universal Stampede. You won that match, and winning the World Title didn't happen right away. But brother it did. You beat Anthony Cross, a big man I have a lot of respect for. Since winning you've been a fighting Champion. You've defended that belt, that same belt I held, time and time again and each time you've won. When I won the World Title a few years ago I had a few words for all the boys in the back. Four words, if I remember: 'try and take it.' Tonight I get to answer that challenge. And it's so much more than just winning back the World Championship. It's about making history and cementing a legacy. Years ago, a little man named... CAELB HART!... was called the Triple Crown Champion. But that was effectively one title with lesser titles absorbed into it. I am going to become a simultaneous triple-Champion. I'll defend each and every belt I win, separately and independently. But to do that I gotta beat you, I gotta beat BRADDOCK, and I gotta beat Chevy. If it's gonna any tonight, it's here in Chicago."
Burnside lowers the microphone. He appears to be done, but then double takes and leans forward toward the camera again.
Jackson Burnside: "Tonight the Weatherman climbs back to the top! With the cloud man as my witness, tonight I beat all three of you! I parade out of here with all the gold and it will be undeniably that I am the greatest athlete that the Universal Wrestling League has ever seen! Brother..."

The picture cuts across the arena and cuts to the ring.
Emily Lyle - The following contest is a elimination match with a sixty minute time limit and it is for the Universal Wrestling League World Championship!!
Drums pound in synch with grinding guitars as “Bonehead" assaults the fans while the arena is blanketed in darkness while at six seconds in, a saxophone begins squealing a prolonged note. At thirteen seconds, while a spotlight suddenly pierces the darkness, casting its light on the entrance curtain, the vocalist begins whooping and screaming. BRADDOCK explodes through the curtain and marches for the ring.
Emily Lyle - “Making his way to the ring! He is five feet, ten inches tall and tips the scales at two hundred and fifty-one pounds and hails from Stockton, California. He! Is! BRADDOCK!!!!
BRADDOCK has ascended the ring steps and is entering the ring halfway down the apron, I’m between the ring posts by dipping under the top rope. He climbs the nearest turnbuckle and while secure on the second rope, he raises both fists in the air and bellows.
All lights in the arena dim down
"Out here we play for keeps Ain't one of us is innocent We've all got blood on our hands"
Emily Lyle - Ladies and gentlemen, from Bootjack, Missouri! Weighing in at 287 pounds! The Silverback, CORY CHEVELLE!
It's time for reckoning No one will come to your defense We'll cut you down where you stand!
Chevelle emerges from the curtain slowly, staring straight down into the ring as the crowd gets louder.
WHEN YOU FALL DOWN ON YOUR KNEES, BEG FOR MERCY, MISTER PLEASE THE TIME HAS COME TO MAKE THINGS RIGHT THERE AINT NO JUDGE FOR PLEADING TO, WE DONE CONVICTED YOU THE DEVIL GETS YOUR SOUL TONIGHT!
Chevelle slowly makes his way down to the ring, hopping up on to the apron and cranking his neck from one side to the other before entering.
The lights in the arena go out and there's the sound of thunder cracking. "Weather Man" starts to play and a few seconds in lights come up focused on the aisleway. Jackson Burnside stands in the entryway behind a black umbrella with "The Weatherman" written across it in reflective silver lettering. As the lyrics to the song kick in he spins the umbrella, and eventualy spins it aorund himself in a twirl. Jackson faces the crowd, throws the umbrella over his shoulder one right hand and he makes a "finger gun" motion out to the crowd with his left.
Emily Lyle: "Blowing in from the Windy City; standing six-five and weighing in tonight at three-hundred and sixteen pounds. He is the UWL Heritage and Television Champion 'The Weatherman', Jackson Buuuuurnsiiiiiide!"
As Emily announces him, Jackson walks on down to the ring with a pep in his step in very performative manner. He sings along with the lyrics to "Weather Man", he bumps fists with people in the crowd, points around with his free hand or the umbrella. Jackson reaches the ring and rolls under the bottom rope. He gets up one knee at a time and walks in a small circle. The song begins to to build up the chorus and Jackson climbs up to the nearest turnbuckle. He puts his head down and holds the umbrella with both hands.
Let the rain come down and I'm pushin' through! 'Cause I'm a weather man!"
Jackson throws his head back in sync with the song. His right arm raises the closed umbrella high into the air. He holds up on the top rope for awhile, and finally after jumping down he removes the long black leather coat and sunglasses. He hands them along with the umbrella to somebody at ringside. He takes a moment to bounce off the ropes and he runs them a few times. Finally he stops in the middle of the ring and continues to hype himself up while waiting.
The lights dim in the arena and the words "I AM #1" flash on the video screen...
