Voice Over - Welcome to the Universal Wrestling League. Now let's go to your broadcast team, Cliff Morris and Logan Acker.
The show opens scanning across the arena.
The picture cuts down to the announcers at ringside.
Cliff Morris - Hello! Wrestling fans welcome to another exciting night of action with the Universal Stampede. Tonight we will find out who'll get the next shot at the UWL World Championship. The winner will get their title shot on March 20th! at Access Denied. Fans let's go these words then we'll get the action started!!
Backstage in Atlanta at the State Farm Arena. "The Weatherman" Jackson Burnside stands alone in an interview staging area. In spite of his recent loss at Starzone, and another failure to recapture the Heritage Championship, he looks as hyped up and energized as ever before. Ignoring the balmy, fifty degree weather in Atlanta during early January - and entirely no selling the fact we are in doors - he's got his full Weatherman outfit on in full display. A tattered, sun-bleached grey winter coat that was probably once black. His blonde curls streaming down from underneath a marron wool cap that looks like something your nana made. His eyes are, as always, hidden behind small circular sunglasses. His gear its on under all of this, because in just a few minutes he has to go out there and compete on the annual universal stampede.
As soon as he knows the camera's rolling he jumps right into the deep end. Burnside begins stomping his right foot rapidly, over and over.
Jackson Burnside: "Aaaaah, do ya hear it Hot-lanta! Can you hear it? Oh Lord the stampede chargin' on down to the State Farm Area. And the Weatherman wants to tell ya that tonight we are ringin' in the new year with a knock down, drag-out brawl that you can't see anywhere else but here in the Universal Wrestling League!"
He quits stomping, but continues along unabated. Non-stop, high-energy delivery. Practically screaming directly into the camera.
Jackson Burnside: "Let this old weather man give you somethin', and brother it ain't the forecast! If this is your first trip down to this rodeo, your first time entering the big top, the first time you've ever tuned in or come out for the Universal Stampede, then you're in for a treat. 'Cause in just a little while man, in just a few minutes you're gonna see everyone in action. Everybody that UWL has to offer, from the top on down. From its new Champs to its former-" He gestures to himself but doesn't linger on it. "From the teams to those of us who fly solo. The big, the small, the X chromosomes, the Y chromosomes, and everything else you can imagine in, around, or between those criteria! It's a night unlike any other. Oh yeah brother, somethin' special. No wrestling matches here tonight, just a brawl; a fight see. A fight, a competition to toss every other brother over the top rope, and all for an opportunity to go on a date with the Silverback. Oh yeah!"
He smiles and scratches at his beard.
Jackson Burnside: "See that's what the Stampede is all about. And tonight Atlanta, tonight is all about The Weatherman going that distance. Grabbin' up each and ever person I can get these mitts on and throwin' 'em over that top rope! Burnside pantomimes grabbing an invisible opponent by the head with his palm and dispatching them as he speaks. "One by one, man by man, going for a ride over that top rope and crashing ten feet down to the outside. When it's all said and done, and I've rampaged through that ring like a one-man herd of wildebeests, my opponents'll be scattered all around outside. Layin' in a heap, lookin worse than Mufasa. Battered, broken, and beaten by The Weatherman!"
Burnside takes steps closer to the camera and takes off his sunglasses. He throws them off to the side, entirely indifferent as to where the landed.
Jackson Burnside: "If you're sittin' there thinkin' I'm done with how the end'a my year went in '23 you'd be dead wrong. 2024 is the year old Jacky Burnside gets back to the top. And I will run through every man, woman or child that stands in my way. I'll beat 'em anyway I gotta. 'Cause Hellbilly, Cory brother I'm comin' for you.
Burnside steps back. He rips his hat off and throws it to the ground. After that he starts removing his winter coat. He's shirtless underneath, and looks to be in great shape. Better in fact than he has in awhile. It's been a slow transformation over the last few weeks, but he's cut a good amount of weight and as a result his physique is less bloated and grotesque than it had been.
Jackson Burnside: "Lemme ask do I look like a man who's given up? He shakes his head. "Nah. Oh no! I am kickin' it up and doin' whatever it takes. We're doing the work brother! Tonight, first show of 2024, I beat everybody else and remind 'em that all of this is mine for the taking. I don't care who y'are or what your name is. Robb Daniels, BRADDOCK, Absolution - both'a ya - Mr. 'Wrestler of the Year' Billy Danielson: I'm beatin' you down, and tossin' your ass over the rope. I will get back to the top of this business! Brother that ain't a forecast, it's a guarantee!"
He points directly at the camera as he makes his guarantee. Burnside slaps his hands together, lets out an emphatic "woooo" and storms off.

Cliff Morris - In just a moment we're going to take you to a video that was posted on the UWL website earlier this week from Robert Daniels who has made his return to UWL. Let's take a look at this video.
The camera opens to a breathtaking view of the South Pointe Park pier in Miami, where the setting sun casts a warm, golden glow over the surroundings. Robert Daniels stands at the edge of the pier, the ocean breeze gently tousling his hair, while Lauren Parker, with her striking new dark hair, stands beside him, emanating a quiet strength.
Robert Daniels - As the sun sets on another day, I find myself reflecting on recent failures, battles where victory eluded me. Jenna Jillian Walker and Nick Danger, they are formidable opponents, each a testament to the tenacity and skill that defines our sport. Their victories were hard-fought and well-deserved.
Lauren steps forward, her voice carrying reassurance and conviction.
Lauren Parker - Robert, love, your recent challenges serve as reminders of the caliber of talent in the ring. Jenna and Nick are no ordinary adversaries. But, my dear, let's not forget the wisdom and experience you bring. In this world of wrestling, experience is the edge, a craft that takes years to master.
Robert gazes out at the water, his eyes reflecting determination and resilience.
Robert Daniels - You're right, Lauren. While my body bears the marks of countless battles, I stand here today, reaffirming to you, to my fans, and to the entire Universal Wrestling League, that I still have so much more to offer. The fire within me burns as fiercely as ever.
He runs his fingers through his hair, a gesture of contemplation, before gently placing his arm around Lauren's shoulders.
Robert Daniels - I am a former three-time UWL World Champion, a grand slam champion, a three-time wrestler of the year, and former Coronation Cup winner. These accolades, they're not just history. They're a testament to what I bring every time I step into that ring…
The camera subtly hints at his involvement in the Universal Stampede match on January sixth at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta.
Narrator - Witness the journey of Robert Daniels, a man whose legacy is far from over. Will he rise once more in the Universal Stampede match on January sixth? The answer awaits in the heart of Atlanta, Georgia.
This view of South Pointe Park is the essence of the Miami Beach atmosphere as Robert Daniels and Lauren Parker walk off into the sunset, their silhouettes blending into the golden hues of the evening, leaving the audience with a sense of anticipation and wonder.

Abby Joseph : Welcome to Universal Stampede please welcome my guest at this time…Nick Danger
Nick Danger walks next to Abby Joseph wearing his wrestling attire. Abby smiles at Nick Danger and speaks
Abby Joseph : Nick Danger tonight you will be part of the Universal Stampede match to get a shot at the UWL Heavyweight Championship and may I ask how do you plan surviving the other superstar’s?
Nick takes a breath and speaks
Nick Danger: It really doesn't matter how I survive or win the match. I just have to throw 29 other superstars over the top rope and win the match.
Abby Joseph : Nick had faced Daron Smythe in the past and do you think things may get heated between you two?
Nick Danger: Listen I am not trying to reset old flames with Daron Smythe. But I do want to beat him in a match in the future. Daron is number one in the world but I have become the number one Ace in the World.
Before Abby can ask her next question Nick has stops her and speaks
Nick Danger: Before you say anything else Abby. I need to explain why I need to win the Stampede match tonight. When I first stepped foot in Universal Wrestling League I was always in people's shadows and that bothered me a lot Abby. I can dream all I want but when you wake up you are yet to achieve your goals. I always go for the side titles and tag team titles. But never going for the big one. Maybe I was always playing it safe and didn't want to fall short not only letting my family down but myself down. I have been wrestling since I was sixteen years old and man I know I had to put in the hard work just to make a name for myself. I already know why I need to win this match tonight.
Abby Joseph : But what if you don’t win the number one contender ship at Access Denied?
Nick takes a moment and speaks
Nick Danger: If I don’t win tonight then me and Ace Sky will be going for the UWL World Tag Team Championships. We beated them last year for the tag team titles. Like the great Bobby Knight said “The key is not the will to win… everybody has that. It is the will to prepare to win that is important.”Fall seven times and stand up eight. So that means no matter what happens tonight I will finally show why I will become the “The Ace Of The World”. So Abby that I got to say.
Abby Joseph : Thank you Nick good luck for your match Nick.
Nick walks away and gets ready for his match. Abby looks back at the camera and speaks with a smile on her face.
Abby Joseph : Back to you guys.

Before the show can commence, Emily Lyle prepares backstage in a small, sparsely decorated room. There are just a couple of chairs and a wooden table pushed against the wall next to three closed lockers. Emily stands in the center of the room holding a pile of index cards, silently mouthing to herself as she flips through them. A knock on the door startles her, and she clears her throat.
Emily: "Come in!"
The door opens and from the right side of the screen enters David Carroll, flanked my Amir and Youssef Saliba from Milites Dei. The two tag team members are dressed in black slacks with white collared shirts, while Carroll himself is wearing a dark green cassock that hangs down to the floor. His hands are folded together as he approaches Emily and gives her a warm smile.
David: "Ms. Lyle, a pleasure to see you again."
Emily gives him a smile back and a slight nod.
Emily: "Thank you, it's very nice to see you, too."
David: "Did you have a chance to look over that email I sent you? I know you're a very busy and successful woman, however there's always enough time for prayer and reflection."
Emily nodded again while looking away for a moment. David immediately reached out and gently touched her left shoulder, knitting his brows in an expression of concern.
David: "Oh I'm sorry, I didn't mean to put you on the spot. It's quite alright if you haven't. I just feel as though you might make a connection with the material, but I've always stood by the belief that every person must find their own path to faith."
David removes his hand and Emily looks to be a little more comfortable.
Emily: "Well, I do appreciate you sending that over, and I do plan on looking at it once I have some time. May I ask what brings you here? We didn't have an interview scheduled, did we?"
David: "We did not, no. Rest assured though, if it's alright with you, I may request that you take all of my interviews going forward."
Before Emily could respond, David continued.
David: "I was merely here today to thank you for the interview a few weeks back and assure you that I have no ill will towards you, what with all the unpleasantness I expressed recently."
Emily: "Oh, no, I didn't think that there was any unpleasantness. I'm actually sorry that you have to go through that."
David: "I am too. UWL was really starting to feel like a place where I could make a difference, turn people's minds and hearts on a path to righteousness. But how can I do that if I'm not even getting the opportunity? Considering the amount of eyes I'm able to draw to our events, I just don't see any other good reason as to why I'm not featured on every show, other than my beliefs."
Emily stays silent, as in the background, both Amir and Youssef take up posts against the wall. David talks enough for the three of them.
David: "But I'm speaking about your employer, who signs your checks, so it is not fair of me to put you in this position. While we're both here though, maybe this could be somewhat of an impromptu interview. I'm sure that there are fans out there that'd like to hear an educated opinion about the Stampede match. Father above knows that educated opinions are in short order around here."
Emily: "Ok. You caught me a little off-guard, but umm…the Stampede match tonight. I guess the big question would be what if it comes down to yourself, and Milites Dei as the final three men?"
She motions to Milites Dei as she asks. The two larger men share a glance, and a few seconds of silence gives way to minor tension in the room. Eventually, they both just shrug their shoulders, which causes David to laugh.
David: "It's a very good question to ask for being caught off guard, and it's a question that would stir turmoil into a less secure group. You see, Amir and Youssef, I took them in and provide them with guidance as if they were my younger brothers. They're a part of the Spirit and Truth Church family, and their successes are not only my successes, but the successes of our church. Look at this match and tell me there is another unit as cohesive as us. All of the major players are loners. Jackson Burnside, Daron Smythe, Billy Danielson…when it comes down to it, they won't be able to work together. Their egos are far too big. If it does come down to the three of us in this room, which I can see as being a very real possibility, then the three of us will do battle with honor, and the best man will come out on top."
Emily: "The winner of course gets a shot at the current UWL Champion…"
David: "Normally I wouldn't be so rude as to cut you off, but the mere mention of that man's name just makes me shudder. And not out of fear, because no matter how big a man might be, with the Lord on my side, I shall fear no man. It makes me shudder from embarrassment, that this company, this sport would be represented by a man who is not far removed from the neanderthals that science would have you believe we come from. This…illiterate, hillbilly ape…who's been constantly throwing accusations my way, about unspeakable actions that wolves in sheep clothing may have taken in the false name of God in the past. I don't know if he's projecting what happened to him as a child by his own inbred father or not. My guess is probably so. Although he also burned down an orphanage he was at, I think, so perhaps his parents received foresight into the kind of man he would be and just thought it best to disown him. I know something about being an orphan myself, but God told the Carroll's the kind of man that I would become, that they were blessed to be chosen to raise one of His kings. And then he has the nerve to call my associates here terrorists, why? Because they come from a part of the world where men have been unjustly branded as such. I've held silent about this for a while, but no longer. The man is an embarrassment to the wrestling business, and the human race at large. He should be locked in a cage and prodded with sticks. Daron Smythe couldn't get the job done, and people might say that I couldn't get the job done against Smythe, which would be correct. But I'm a new man, and this new man has taken up arms, and that UWL Championship will be ours soon. And when that happens, well glory be to God, for it is His will that I carry out."
David rolls his neck and stares directly into the camera.
David: "For I have often heard my mother say that I came into this world with my legs forward, for I had reason to make haste. The word love is resident in men like me, but tonight, love will not be in my heart. I purge myself for a fleeting moment in time, and may tears of crimson flow from those that wish the downfall of my house! The Church is here, and glory be to God, for His glory and our victory goes hand in hand."
Carroll's features relax and looks back towards Emily with a smile.
David: "Thank you. I needed that. We're ready."
With that, David exits the room, followed by Milites Dei, leaving Emily standing there. With an audible exhale, she shook her head and got back to her cards.

Wheeling, West Virginia was an interesting city to grow up in. 68 miles from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but a mere 10 miles from the state's border, and sharing some of the same qualities as the Steel City, including the confluence of several rivers, probably hit twice as hard by the closing of the steel mills in the late 70s and early 80s. And to the west, just a short mile or two from neighboring Ohio. It's an area that's been slowly dying for 30 years, yet is grasping hard at relevancy. The same tried and true stereotypes of small town living, ideas about a slower pace, everyone knowing everyone's name, friendly faces all around. Those tropes do ring true, but just like in Friday Night Lights, the concept of the "Devil Town" that traps you and sucks the life out of you is also prevalent...
The camera pans in as Daron Smythe is seen walking in downtown Wheeling, once a bustling area of shopping, banking, and living, is now in a bit of a reniassance, with apartment buildings, restaurants, businesses, but with the growing pains of street construction and its obstacles. It is unusually warm for an early January, highs in the upper 50s/lower 60s, but Daron is still bundled up a bit as he walks and addresses the camera...
DARON: Any time I feel like I need to re-center myself, I like to come back home. To many people, Wheeling, West Virginia is a small blip on map, a town lucky enough to have the interstate and National Road coming through. There is something comforting about coming home, a reminder of where I came from, what shaped me. *Daron points down towards the waterfront at an arena* There is Wesbanco Arena. When I was younger we knew it as the Wheeling Civic Center. Almost 37 years ago, my brave mother took me to see the World Wrestling Federation there at a house show. We sat ringside as I marveled at these super hereos come to life, like the Ultimate Warrior, Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage - August 30th, 1987. I was just a little over four years old. I say my mother was brave because I can't even imagine what it was like dragging me to the arena, paying for parking, souvenirs, the whole nine. But it sparked something in me.
That poor woman worked her ass off and did whatever she had to do to take me to those shows. Hell, they came six times in 1989! It's hard to believe, but it's true. And for a single mom getting zero child support in a dying steel town, that was hard to do. But by hook or by crook, she made it happen. She always did. She supported me, somewhat reluctantly, as I went to that dingy wrestling school in some unknown person's garage. She let me take that beat up 1993 Ford Tempo all over the tri-state area to shows, even driving me to a few herself. She cried when I moved out, knowing I probably wasn't coming back, at least not permanently.
As much as I wanted to get out, this place shaped me. There were so many good things about being here, the opportunities to do so many things. But it's also a place about "who you know" where climbing the social and economic ladder is much more difficult if you aren't born into the family that owns the local denistry, sports bar, construction company, or car dealership. No, I knew I had to get out to make those opportunities for myself, personally and professionally.
I work so damn hard because I have that inborn, innate fear in me of what it was like to grow up poor. What if I came home from school and the electricity was shut off? Or the phone? Or the water? Seeing my mom work 2-3 jobs and still never be able to get ahead while still somehow being trapped by this place and its familiar comforts motivated me more than ever to get out. No, I knew there were definite ceilings to continuing adulthood in this place and it made it that much easier to leave.
I've always had to fight and scrap and work - no matter what the situation is, I tell myself "I can figure this out". I think that's what makes this Cory Chevelle thing so frustrating. I know how good I am, I know what I can do in that ring. I don't discredit what Cory is, he's a superhuman athlete and way more intelligent than he will let on. A genius level wrestling accumen combined with a killer instict, size, and strength? Come on. For the first time in my entire level I start to question whether or not I can "figure this out." As tough as I am and as much as I've pushed him to his limits, he's had his hand raised time and time again.
I have to find that next gear, that next level. Where does that come from? Maybe anger - I saw those awards, saw how everyone voted. I can't help but take it personally. A guy who won the Universal Stampede, won a #1 Contender's Tournament, won the World Title, can't get a single vote for Wrestler of the Year? Maybe it's that good ol' boys network kicking in. Maybe that's why I want to conquer the UWL so badly? Because it reminds me of home - those people who had the entire loaf of bread and would moan about having to break off a few crumbs for the peasants no matter how hard they worked. Those trust fund babies who swore up and down they worked for everything they have yet were handed the keys to a very successful restaurant or car dealership or lawn service or.... the list goes on and on.
Like I said before, I'm an only child. Every man for himself is comfortable for me. I just need to get back to feeling like...me. That confidence to hold a single ring finger in the air, confidentially telling the whole world what you think of yourself in spite of their reactions, or lack thereof. I didn't work my ass of to get this far to only get this far. If these past 18 months have proven anything is that I'm a resourceful son of a bitch, especially when the chips are down. So, UWL superstars in the Universal Stampede, get ready, because it is my destiny to once again be the UWL World Champion...
...the only variable, is time.
Daron snaps his fingers at the camera and the picture cuts to black.

Smythe looks out at the crowd, some holding up their own version of the single finger salute, as he saunters down the aisle towards the ring, confidently keeping that finger in the air as he steps through the ropes.
Cliff Morris - Daron Smythe the 2023 Universal Stampede winner is the next competitor in the 2024 Universal Stampede!!
Smythe comes into the ring. As he does, Danielson and Brown are trading punches. Brown goes for a clothesline on Danielson as he leans against the ropes. Danielson leans over throwing Brown up and over the top rope sending him down to the floor.
