Some of you may be wondering. Why UWL? Well, I am about to go into just that.
When I first formed this place in 2005, Universal Wrestling Conference (UWL) and Universal Wrestling Network (UWN) were two names I considered calling it back then. Actually, here are the names I considered way back when. Universal Championship Wrestling (UCW), Universal Wrestling Conference (UWL), Universal Wrestling Network (UWN), Down South Wrestling (DSW), Premier Wrestling Council (PWC), and of course, we know the name I chose.
So why UWL? Well, actually, it's a tribute to WCW. When Ted Turner first bought Jim Crockett Promotions, Instead of WCW, he was going to name it Universal Wrestling Corporation (UWL). It's also a well-known trivia note. AOL Time Warner used Universal Wrestling Corporation as the name of the assets that were left from WCW. There was even a video game made that was later made for WCW it was originally called UWL. Here is a picture of said box.
Being a WCW fan UWL is a way for me to pay tribute. So there you have it, why UWL.
